If your not one for foreign language movies then watch the American remake, I’m usually not one for remakes but this one is very good and as close to the original as possible, it’s more of a translation than a remake and it is beautifully done, and starring Tim Roth and Naomi Watts if I may add. The film itself is an exploration into the reality of violence, it’s gruesomeness and terror. At one point you’re holding out hope, then you lost that hope, then something happens and you’re like, “oh shit, there’s still a glimmer of hope” then the director does something twisted. As little gore as there is, the movie is very violent.

In a Glass Cage 1987
Okay, so this former evil-nazi-concentration-camp-doctor-pedophile dude tries to commit suicide, fails and is paralyzed from the neck down gets a new nurse. The film itself is disturbing due to its graphic content, but then there’s a scene where the former nazi gets a front row seat to a pretty nasty scene while he’s trapped inside his iron lung.

Mermaid in a Manhole 1998
Very memorable Japanese movie where a man discovers a mermaid that he had met during his childhood, living in the sewer. She’s deathly ill so he takes her to his bathtub to return her to health. Problem is she’s all scabby and full of puss and other disgusting crap.
